Part II Candy Coating - From where dost they come?

Chocolate covered sunflower seeds are the M&M’s of the health food world.
They're colorful  which make them a fun snack & they also have the added benefits of
healthy fat, protein and fiber.
But the Candy Coated Chocolate Sunflower Seeds are not the only thing at the
Sweet Shop that is candy coated.

But first - how did the candy coating on chocolate
get started?

In the 1930s during the Spanish Civil War soldiers were seen by the founder of Mar's Candy eating chocolate pellets with a hard shell of tempered chocolate surrounding the inside, preventing the candies from melting. In 1941 Mar's started making hard-coated chocolates.

When World War II began, and M&Ms® were immediately popular among soldiers because of the candies’ ability to travel well and withstand high temperatures. Soon the Armed Forces incorporated M&M's® into soldiers' C-Rations and sold them in Post Exchanges and Ships Service Stores. The candies were exclusively sold to the military until after the war was over.

Now you know the rest of the storyPaul Harvey
